Report Double-Brokering

If a load you booked was secretly re-assigned to another carrier without your consent, tell us about it below. No account needed.

What is double-brokering?

Double-brokering happens when a broker or carrier that books a load doesn't haul it themselves — instead, they quietly hand it off to a second, unvetted carrier without telling the shipper or the original broker. The company you thought you contracted with is never the one that actually shows up.

Why it matters

  • Carriers often go unpaid. The fraudulent middleman collects payment from the shipper or broker and disappears before paying the carrier that actually moved the freight.
  • It creates liability and insurance gaps. If something goes wrong in transit — an accident, cargo damage, a claim — it's unclear who's actually responsible, and the carrier on record may not be insured for that load.
  • It bypasses vetting entirely. Whatever due diligence was done on the original carrier is worthless if a completely different, unvetted company ends up hauling the freight.

Common red flags

  • The driver or truck that shows up doesn't match the carrier you booked
  • You're asked to rebroker or "co-broker" a load with a company you've never worked with
  • Payment is unusually delayed, or a factoring company you don't recognize is suddenly involved
  • A broker pressures you to skip standard carrier verification (MC/DOT check, insurance on file, authority status)
  • Contact information for a "carrier" changes right before or during a load — new phone, new email, new dispatcher

FreightWatch's carrier and broker search lets you check authority status, safety history, and insurance on file before you commit to a load — the fastest way to confirm who you're actually dealing with.

What happens after you submit

Your report goes directly to the FreightWatch team for review. We use reports like this to spot patterns — companies or numbers that show up in multiple complaints — and factor that into how we track risk. We may follow up at the email you provide if we need more detail, but there's no obligation and we won't share your contact information.
