Introducing Ghost Carrier Detection Alerts

July 2026 · 5 min read

FreightWatch now watches every watchlisted carrier's contact email, phone, company officers, and mailing address — not just authority status — and alerts Pro, Business, and Enterprise subscribers the moment one changes.

If you haven't read the background on why this matters, see Ghost Carriers: How Freight Fraud Rings Steal Real Carriers' Identities to Beat Vetting Checks.

The Gap This Closes

A one-time vetting check answers one question: does this carrier legitimately exist? A "ghost carrier" takeover is built specifically to pass that check — a fraud ring steals a real, active carrier's identity (its FMCSA credentials, phone number, email address) and everything still checks out on paper. The authority is active. The insurance is on file. The name matches. The only thing that changed is who actually answers the phone.

FreightWatch's Change Monitoring already caught authority and safety-rating changes on your watchlisted carriers. Ghost Carrier Detection Alerts extends that same engine to the fields a takeover actually touches.

What It Watches

For every carrier on your watchlist, FreightWatch now tracks:

  • Contact email on file
  • Contact phone number on file
  • Listed company officers
  • Mailing address

Any change to these fields fires a Ghost Carrier Risk alert — separate from, and in addition to, the existing authority-status and safety-rating alerts. You'll see exactly what changed and when, so you can pick up the phone and verify directly with the carrier before dispatching, rather than finding out after a load disappears.

Who Gets It

Ghost Carrier Detection Alerts are included for Pro, Business, and Enterprise subscribers at no extra cost — the same tiers that already include email alerts on authority and safety-rating changes. Free accounts can still search and save up to 5 carriers to a watchlist, but change-detection alerts of any kind — including Ghost Carrier Detection Alerts — are a paid-tier feature.

Why Watchlist-Based, Not Every Carrier

FreightWatch tracks roughly 4.4 million carriers. Continuously diffing identity fields across the entire dataset every night isn't where the value is — it's the carriers you actually work with that matter. Ghost Carrier Detection Alerts run against your watchlist, the same set of carriers you already get authority and safety-rating alerts on, so the carriers you depend on are the ones being watched.
